Filed Under (Air Filter Tips) by pooch

Many recent Toyotas have an air filter for the air entering the cabin. It reduces dust and debris falling through the ventilation. It should be changed every 10000 miles or roughly in line with the manual. This is a simple part to replace yourself, so there’s no need to hire someone.

1.Obtain replacing the filter. You can buy one at your nearest dealer or can buy around a car parts store or online.
2.Abra the glove compartment all the way and remove the screw on the bottom right. Pull the loop over the branch inside and outside the cylinder in which the screw was. Do not miss the screw.

* In a Highlander, you may be able to eliminate the loop without removing the screw, which is below and behind the glove compartment; leave the glove compartment closed while removing the loop, and then open it.

3. Tighten the sides of the glove compartment and pull together to move the tabs past the edges, in front of the script. Then, lift the entire glove over its hinges.
4. Remove the plastic cover pressing tabs. There are tabs on both sides, but the picture shows only one.

5. Slide the old filter pulling it toward you. The plan must be upwards so that they do not spill debris.

6. Insert the new filter. The arrow that says ↑ UP should be upward, upward, as shown in the photo.
7. Adjust the back cover in place.
8. Put the glove compartment container back to their hinges and push in the tabs to fit behind the back dash. You may have to tighten the sides again, as it did when it took the glove compartment.

9. Replace the loop and screw on the bottom right.
