A skilled craftsman understands how his work requires the right tools for the job as well as quality tools that endure time and use.

Would you agree cleaning your air is a task demanding both the most effective and highest quality air purifiers? Do you know the best tool for the job? Why not invest a few moments to consider a few points cutting straight to the heart of the matter?

The Job – What’s Really in the Air You Breathe

Is removing allergens or asthma triggers your main reason for an air purifier? Then you should choose one capable of removing coarse particles like pollen in the 2.5 to 10 micron size range. Filtering these coarse particles is a relatively easy job. Many air purifiers have a pre-filter adequate for this job.

You also need to remove allergenic and irritating fine particles smaller than 2.5 micron in size. These include such things as mold, bacteria, animal dander, fumes, and house dust mite allergens. HEPA quality air purifiers are the most effective choice for this.

Finally, there is a third class of harmful particles you need to consider. These are ultra-fine particles smaller than 0.1 micron and may include viruses, bacteria, some house dust mite allergens, cat allergens, smoke, soot, fumes, and smog. More than 90% of all particulates are included in this size class.

Ultra-fine particles are known as “lung penetrating particles” because they are able to be inhaled deeply into the lungs. Since they can also traverse lung membranes and enter the bloodstream they are also the ones most dangerous to your health. Particles of this size have been linked to increased strokes, heart attacks, hospitalizations, inflammation of lung tissue and lung cancer as well as many other health risks.

Again, HEPA quality air purifiers are the best tool for the job. Many mistakenly believe the 99.97% removal efficiency at 0.3 micron indicates the lower limit of HEPA filtration ability. Rather, it indicates the single particle size it is least able to filter. All other sizes, including smaller than 0.1 micron, are removed with even greater efficiency. The mechanics of how this is done rely upon a physical principle known as Brownian diffusion, a discussion of which is beyond the scope of this article.

Why You Need Both Quantity and Quality

To realize the greatest possible health benefits your air purifier needs to filter all the air in your room not just some small portion. Generally speaking, allergy relief requires four complete changes of your room air per hour. Ideally, and for help with more severe respiratory problems, six air changes per hour should be your goal.

How can you achieve this? Obviously, low volume air cleaners like ionic air purifiers are not up to the job. What is needed is a powerful fan capable of moving large quantities of air through a filter.

Filter efficiency is the quality side of the equation. Rough cleaning simply won’t do. Why settle for 60%, 80% or 90% filtration efficiency? That leaves far too many pollutants in the air and reduces the health benefit to you.

HEPA quality air purifiers alone fit the bill. They include the powerful fan necessary for delivering large volumes of clean air. They also clean that air to the absolute highest standard possible. No other product on the market comes close. That’s why HEPA quality air purifiers are the choice of air quality experts and consumers like you who have done their research.
