The intake system of the Ford Mustang is carefully tuned in the factory to provide the greatest efficiency and power limited by design for manufacture and comfort. The factory system is tuned for flow and noise. The system contains three main parts on modern fuel injected mustangs, air filter, mass flow sensor and throttle body. A silencer is integrated in the system to cut down noise in the interior area. The silencers on factory systems tend to restrict air flow and create turbulence which can reduce total power. The Cold Air Intake system removes this restriction and adds a better flowing filter and pipes than the already efficient factory system.

The ideal aftermarket intake system should increase the velocity of the air while it travels to the throttle body, while minimizing turbulence, temperature and restriction of flow. There are many manufacturers of cold air intake systems that use different techniques to achieve increased air flow, reduced turbulence and lower intake temperatures.

Factory Ford Mustang air intakes tend to also have flow restrictions in order to save space and weight under the hood and are not very attractive. Aftermarket cold air intake systems come in many different finishes, colors and sizes, they are easily installed and less costly than other performance increasing modifications.

My choice for Mustang Cold Air Intake is the Secret Weapon Intake from Secret weapon R. They are attractive and have all of the features you want for a cold air intake,

Cooler air temperatures, increased flow, less turbulence, a system to increase velocity and they are very attractive. They make a system for V6 and V8 Mustangs, both systems include Ram Air II kits. (FIG 2)

The Mustang Secret Weapon Intake starts with an air filter made of polyurethane foam rated at 300 pores per inch this filter traps more dirt than K&N / AEM and Injen Air Filters which have 30 to 60 pores per square inch. The Air filter has Ram Air capability, by hooking up the hose to the top of the air filter to bring even cooler air from the nose of your Mustang. The filter can be totally disassembled and cleaned.

The air filter feeds to a TRUE VELOCITY STACK (FIG 1) inside, it helps gather more air and increase velocity to the air in the intake tube. The intake tube has a primary and secondary air passage inside the intake pipe to create a fusion effect right before the throttle body which enhances the air speed by 3 times.
